Ukraine Slowly Dismantles Russian Military Industry with Targeted Drone Strikes

On the night of May 7, Ukrainian drones reportedly targeted key facilities of Russia’s defense industry across several regions, sparking explosions and large-scale fires. Although the Russian Ministry of Defense has not officially confirmed the attacks, they were widely covered by local Telegram channels and independent news networks.

Key reported incidents include:

  • In Saransk, a drone strike ignited a fire at an optical fiber production plant, believed to be a critical supplier of telecommunications and military-grade systems.
  • In Tula, fires broke out at two major military-industrial facilities, including one operated by Rostech. This facility manufactures multiple-launch rocket systems such as Grad, Uragan, Smerch, and Tornado, as well as thermobaric munitions for the TOC-1A “Solntsepyok”.
  • In the Moscow region, the Kubinka military airfield, home to MiG-29 and Su-27 fighter jets, was reportedly targeted. While no official damage has been confirmed, multiple airports around Moscow were temporarily shut down as a safety precaution.

These strikes are among the most extensive Ukrainian drone operations inside Russian territory in 2025, targeting core infrastructure involved in the production of war materiel. Such attacks have become increasingly frequent in recent months.
